Wellesley police warn of veterans-related phone scam

From Wellesley Police Department:

The Wellesley Police Department has experienced well over fifty phone calls regarding the legitimacy of Bay State Veterans asking local residents for donations.  The callers have reported that donations go directly to local veterans.  In addition, they are asking that the donations be left in an envelope at the residence so a collector can retrieve the donation.

Bay State Veterans is believed to be a fraudulent company and the Wellesley Police Department is recommending that you do not donate to this company.  Wellesley Police, with assistance from local Veterans Affairs and the American Legion request that if you would like to donate to your local veterans group, to donate to DAV, (Disabled American Veterans) Chapter 23.

Donations can be sent to DAV c/o Frank Campion 76 Prospect St. Wellesley, MA.  Mr. Campion is the local board member for DAV.
