Awesome Express, the rock band featuring young men from Wellesley and nearby communities, kicked off the Wellesley summer concert series last night at the town hall green before a crowd of several hundred.
The usual “experienced” summer concert goers were few and far between, replaced by a younger crowd and a mix of baby boomers cheering for some old time rock from the Who, Led Zeppelin and others, as well as original tunes.
The band finished off with the song rock audiences often jokingly request: Freebird!
Next up: The Reminisants, with 50s/60s music next Wednesday at 7pm.
