Wellesley woman recognized for coming up with memorial train idea

Marcia Weaver of Wellesley has been recognized this summer by the Massachusetts Bay Commuter Railroad Company (MBCR) for her efforts to bring the “Gold Star Memorial Coach” train to life.

MBCR award, Wellesley MA

(L-R): MBCR General Manager Hugh Kiley, Wellesley’s Marcia Weaver, and MBCR Chairman Jim O’Leary (also of Wellesley)

Weaver, who works as MBCR’s customer communications & marketing manager, came up with the idea for this special passenger coach wrapped in red, white and blue and adorned with over 150 gold stars that each hold the name of a Massachusetts serviceman or servicewoman who lost their life in the wars in Iraq and Afghanistan. It was unveiled just before Memorial Day and was first slated to travel through Wellesley in June. Weaver has worked with veterans’ families and others to coordinate appearances by the train.
