Wellesley native Nate Freiman leads Israel to opening World Baseball Classic victory

UPDATE: Freiman hit 2 more homers in Game 2, vs Spain.

Nate Freiman, the ex-Wellesley High School baseball star who didn’t get called up by the San Diego Padres in September despite having a powerful minor league season in which he led his league in RBIs, slugged two homers yesterday for Israel vs. South Africa in the opening qualifier of the World Baseball Classic in Jupiter, Fla. Freiman, who had an excellent baseball career at Duke University after leaving Wellesley, will have a chance to open more eyes in this tournament in which he’s playing alongside former major leaguers such as Shawn Green and Gabe Kapler.
