Name that tome: $20K+ discovered in hollowed out book at Wellesley RDF

wellesley rdfWild story in the Townsman this week about a man from Marlborough who says he found a book at the Wellesley Recycling & Disposal Facility last month  with more than a casual vacancy in it — the hollowed out book had $20K+ inside.

Now the man is looking to get the money back to its rightful owner. Someone could use that money for their country club membership or kitchen remodeling, no doubt.

If no one can identify the book (Treasure Island?) and its contents, the man says he’ll at least donate a chunk of it to charity and keep the rest.

Guess this beats the Hamster Wrestling game we found at the Wellesley dump last year.

(What’s your most amazing Wellesley RDF find?)

Are you people serious? Just listen to yourselves. You sound like like spoiled little children with entitlements.

My best find at the dump take-and-leave was a battery operated alarm system that played the sound of a large growling, barking dog when it detected motion. the box had never been opened. I had loads of fun with it. In summer I would put it it the garden to scare off varmints, and at Halloween, it scared heck out of trick or treaters. After many years, I brought it back to dump to pass on the fun.

Not to rain on his parade, but what was a man from Marlborough doing at the Wellesley RDF to begin with? Just curious.

The man “he drops off trash for his Wellesley employer” at the RDF, according to the original story. So not uncommon at all for the RDF to be accessed by people from out of town in that way.

Maybe the out-of-town guest workers should be self-deported. They are finding the treasures that Wellesley residents want to find. :-)

Just for the record — the Townsman did see the permit the man has to dump trash in Wellesley for his employer.

So he was there as an employee of a Wellesley resident. Did he inform his employer of his find? Is this a loophole that allow nonresidents to remove materials for their own use? Insteresting gray area…

I agree – he should be given permission to take the trash and recycling there but not the right to take stuff unless it is delivered directly to the person who owns the right to use the RDF. Wonder how many others from out of town get to use our reusables and book areas????
