Suspect in Wellesley child assault/rape case turns himself in

Wellesley Police have announced that the suspect they had been seeking in connection with the alleged rape of a child has turned himself in and that bail has been set at $7,500.

Mariano Pereyra of Boston, a 54-year-old male, was wanted by the Wellesley Police on multiple counts of indecent assault and battery on a child under 14, rape of a child and aggravated rape. All of the crimes involved the same victim, who police say was known to Pereyra. Pereyra was arraigned in Dedham District Court.

The police are not releasing further details.
