A third of higher ed students now taking at least 1 online course, Babson survey says

The 2013 Survey of Online Learning conducted by the Babson Survey Research Group shows that more than 7.1 million higher education students are now taking online courses, though the growth rate of students taking such courses has slowed to 6.1%, the lowest number in a decade.

Overall, a third of higher education students now take at least 1 online course, and the percent of academic leaders rating the learning outcomes in online education as the same or superior to those in face-to-face has grown from 57.2% in 2003 to 74.1% this year. Five percent of higher education institutions offer a MOOC (Massive Open Online Course), another 9.3% say they have such programs in the works.
