Boston Globe editorial page lauds Wellesley skating rinks, ice safety measures

20140121-082133.jpgThe slick new Wellesley outdoor skating rinks across from Wellesley High School and next to the track/football field, are almost skating-ready. There are two big rinks and a smaller one that’s a bit hard to see from this angle. The Wellesley Recreation rinks were built using a sturdy liner that will be re-usable in future winters.

The Boston Globe in an editorial on Tuesday credits the town and its firefighters for promoting ice-related safety, in the wake of the dramatic dog rescue on the Charles River and by encouraging people to skate on rinks, not ponds or lakes. Firefighters took part in the rink raising and filling the rinks with water.
