We received email Tuesday from a reader who went by Longfellow Pond and saw four fire trucks and one person in a hole in the ice. “I hope it is just a practice drill,” the reader wrote.

Indeed, it’s a regularly scheduled training outing for the department, and will involve all four shifts. The firefighters are donning the safety suits and reviewing skills, like those used to save Crosby the dog recently. And yes, the training was already scheduled before that incident happened, says Chief Rick DeLorie.
