North River Outfitter, a  ”classic clothier to ladies and gentlemen,” according to their website, is coming to Wellesley Square in August at 35 Central Street in the section of Footstock that formerly sold children’s shoes. Footstock is still in business next door at 33 Central St.

Look for pricey labels with a strong preppy vibe such as  Tory Burch, Barbour, and Harris Tweed.  The company chooses their clientele carefully — other locations are on Beacon Hill in Boston, Nantucket, and Edgartown.  A look at Yelp reviews for their Boston location, however, reveals a generally dissatisfied bunch of shoppers who seem to wish that store management chose their staff as carefully as they chose their zip codes.  Complaints mostly covered customer service, while praise pointed out the array of high-end brands.

We think that the demand in town for the preppy silhouette is so strong that a few negative online murmurs won’t stop shoppers from giving the store a chance.
