Wellesley United Soccer Club presents a presentation on sports-related concussions by Dr. William Meehan, director of the Micheli Center and Sports Medicine at Children’s Hospital. The talk will take place on April 2 at 7:00pm at the Wellesley Middle School Auditorium.
Parents and coaches involved in all youth and high school sports are welcome.
Sports-related head injuries have generated a great deal of national attention, prompting, in the case of concussion alone, new rule changes in how head injuries are treated in the NFL and widespread recognition of the need for state laws addressing concussions in high school athletes.
While the spotlight has been primarily on traumatic sports injuries in football, a wide variety of other sports have the potential for injury to the central nervous system. This increased awareness has required medical professionals, athletic trainers, and coaches, among others, to better diagnose and manage the way that players with these injuries are treated.
Dr. Meehan will present the latest strategies in the evaluation and treatment of athletes suffering concussion that coaches, athletic trainers, physical therapists and families with children involved in sports should be aware.
