Wellesley Town Clerk Kathleen Nagle for the past 15 years has been the go-to person in town for those who need to get sworn in for this or that at Town Hall. She’s done the honors for me at least a couple of times as I’ve raised a hand and sworn to help develop, promote and maintain the town’s trails system.
Nagle, as town clerk, has also been Wellesley’s official keeper for Town Meeting and vital records, and overseen administration of elections and voter-related activities.
But come March 2018, Nagle will not be on the ballot for this 3-year elected and salaried position, and below you can read her retirement letter.
November 22, 2017
To the Editor:
It is with sincere gratitude to the voters of Wellesley that I announce my retirement from the position of Town Clerk effective at the end of my current term in March 2018. I was first elected in 2003 and have appreciated the privilege of serving the community for 15 years.
I have been able to work closely with professional staff, elected and appointed Boards and Town Meeting in the governance of Wellesley. I have been impressed by the quality and commitment of our department heads, and the dedication and spirit of volunteerism on Boards that makes our town a special community.
My passion as Clerk has always been the election function of the office. I tried to be impartial, helpful and fair to all candidates and voters. I have advocated for the voter to make it easy to cast ballots while ensuring that all can trust in the integrity of election results. I have been grateful for the expressions of support that I have received from
the voters of Wellesley who have told me that they feel their interests have been served.
The voters of Wellesley will elect a new clerk in March 2018. The Town Clerk is a unique position in Wellesley as the only elected official with full time responsibility for daily operations and management of a department. This position is a resource and place of welcome to the public as the Clerk can listen to citizen viewpoints and share them with the town management team on a variety of issues.
Nomination papers for all elected positions for the Annual Town election for March 2018 will be available at the office of the Town Clerk beginning December 6, 2017.
Sincerely
Kathleen F. Nagle
NOTE: The League of Women Voters of Wellesley will host a meeting on December 6 at 7pm at the Warren Building for residents who are interested in running for office.

Loved the caption in this post and loved Kathy Nagle as our Town Clerk these many years. Saw in last week’s Townsman the announcement by KC Kato for this vacancy! I, for one, am excited about her running for this position,. I’m confident if given the chance she would do a great job, too!
