Haunted Wellesley

Only the old Wellesley Inn made this list of haunted places in Massachusetts. Hope the developers of The Durant, slated to go up where the Inn was on Rte. 16, knew about this:

“In the Lafayette Lounge objects have been known to move of their own accord. Hotel and restaurant staff have reported mysterious goings on with the small elevator in the lobby, among other happenings elsewhere in the building. Sense of being watched. Sometimes the scent of rosewater perfume can be detected.”

New England Ghost Tours, run out of Wellesley, has said Wellesley just isn’t “chilling enough” to warrant any ghost tours through town.

Hell’s bells at Wellesley College

Galen Tower

The school is featuring a “Haunted Tower” from 6-8pm on Halloween featuring its spooky carillon, “which features 32 bells made of solid bronze, ranging in weight from 80 to 1,600 pounds.” The bells, located at the Galen Stone Tower, will ring out the theme from the Harry Potter movies on Friday night and candy will be distributed as well.

Just one other thing: To play it really safe, you might not want to stand behind any pumpkins (Below, a Wellesley Lieutenant taking target practice):

Wellesley-inspired Halloween costume ideas

Looking for costume ideas with a Wellesley flair and disappointed that there’s already been a run on Wellesley “masseuse” and “masseuse advisor” costumes?  Here are a few other ideas to make you the hit of any local Halloween party:

* Parking space costumes

parksign

The idea: This is a sure winner for Wellesley High students looking to attract fellow students whose parking spaces are being aced out by the new school construction.

How to do it: Wear all black/dark gray, but use reflective yellow tape along the sides of your body. Use fabric or cardboard to create a universal blue/white parking P on the shirt along with the words: Student parking only.

parkingshirt

The other idea: Dress like a Wellesley High School student by wearing a No Parking T-shirt.

* Lost/stolen “Woman and Child” painting

picnik-collage

The idea: Recreate the infamous lost/stolen Leger painting that Wellesley College’s Davis Museum has been trying to track down.

How to do it: Blow up a copy of the painting and paste it to a big piece of cardboard. Wrap the bottom of the cardboard in a big black garbage bag to depict the art being tossed in the trash. Voila, this costume is work of art.

* Anonymous Donor

anondonor

The idea: Pay homage to the mysterious benefactor behind this past summer’s free Beach Boys concert in Wellesley.

How to do it: A pair of shades and shiny $ pendant should do the trick.

* Save 1938 Wellesley High cheerleaders

The idea: Still holding out hope that the original 1938 Wellesley High School building might be saved? Dress the part of old school cheerleader.

How to do it: Grab a guy or gal cheerleader’s outfit and megaphone, then adorn them with “WHS 1938″, and you’re all set.
