Vampires and pigeons

July 10, 2008 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Wellesley Booksmith has a couple of interesting book events set for August:*  On Friday, Aug. 1 there will be a midnight release of the fourth and final installment of Stephenie Meyer’s Twilight series. The new book is called First Breaking Dawn, and yes, people have compared this writer of vampire love stories popular with young adults as a possible “new J.K. Rowling.” Meyer, who will NOT be appearing at the store for the book release, has begged fans on her web site not to spoil the surprise of her latest book for others by leaking early versions of it. Be forewarned: The Booksmith is inviting fans to come…wearing costumes. The bookstore  will show a movie at 10pm and offer giveaways leading up to the book release.

* Author Courtney Humphries will visit the Booksmith on Wednesday, Aug. 13 at 7pm to chat about pigeons, a bird that of course is rarely seen in Wellesley. Her new book is called Superdove: How the Pigeons Took Manhattan – And the World. Let’s just keep her and her little feathered friends away from any statues in town.
