Wellesley Police tell the Townsman that residents need to be more diligent about locking their cars in light of a slew of recent break-ins.
They should also beware library patrons.
Someone who shall not be named was at the library last week for a meeting and went out into the parking lot before the meeting to toss his library borrowings into his car, which was locked. He activated the remote unlock system, opened the passenger-side door and put his stuff on the seat. Got partway back to the library when it suddenly struck him: Why would my car smell like cigarettes since I don’t smoke? Turns out the car parked next to his was a nearly identical model and color…and wasn’t locked….and that’s the one he threw his bag into.
Close one: somebody could have wound up with a really weird collection of library books, magazines and DVDs.
