A few dozen kids ranging from kindergartners to teens took part in last night’s SCORE Spelling Bee at Wellesley Free Library. This was an impressive bunch of wordsmiths, especially a cadre of confident 1st grade girls who looked unbeatable for most of the 2-plus hour event. In the end, 5th grader Caleb Brown took home the crown, spelling out words like “anti-ballistic,” “gyroscope” and “boysenberry.” Secrets to success? “Not studying at all… Boysenberry was tricky, but I think I remember seeing it in Harry Potter books.”
