Where is the one place in the world that you come across the word “swell” more than on this website?
Disney World, that’s where. We weren’t at the Magic Kingdom more than 5 minutes this past week before Mickey Mouse promised us that we’d have “a swell day” and we heard swell this and swell that a handful of other times, too.
Anyway, a quick recap of what we missed in town this week:
* That bank robber who has hit a couple of Wellesley banks this year as well as banks in several other Massachusetts communities now has a nickname: The U30 Bandit, for his ability to get in and out of banks in under 30 seconds. While the banks were safe this past week, thieves continued to target Wellesley, including Eaton Apothecary and Thunder Sports.
* Leave it to us to find a Wellesley angle on Michael Jackson’s death. The Wellesley College Wellesley Widows a cappella group performed a Thriller medley for their season-ending concert in 2007:
* Wellesleyites medaled at U.S. Youth Rowing National Championships in Cincinnati in mid-June. Wellesley’s Christian Van Dyck and Tim Giroux (2nd and 7th from left, respectively, in top photo) were part of the bronze medal-winning lightweight 8 and Wellesley’s Chris Massey was part of a silver medal-winning heavyweight 4 boat (3rd from left, lower picture).
