We recently mentioned updated cellphone rules at Wellesley High School, which included a reference to three-time rule breakers needing to go to Saturday School. One reader wrote in to ask what the heck Saturday School is. WHS Principal Andrew Keough explains:
Saturday school is an alternative to suspension and is designed to reduce out of school suspensions and possible drop outs. Students who have accumulated excessive after school detentions can serve them in Saturday school as well. It was not set up to address the cell phone violators, but rather to provide administrators with additional disciplinary options.
We didn’t inquire about Sunday School, but assume that’s probably one of those double-secret probation sort of things.
