With the leaf blowing season in full gear, Wellesley Town Hall is spreading the word that an anti-noise bylaw passed at this year’s annual town meeting is now in effect. The change to local law was spearheaded by ex-Selectman David Himmelberger, a Wellesley resident and lawyer. The purpose of the bylaw is to limit the hours at which commercial use of construction, yard maintenance and other such gear is allowed (7am-7pm weekdays, 8am-7pm Saturdays and state-observed holidays, and not at all on Sundays).
The bylaw (#49.34) does not apply to homeowners, nor does it apply to golf course maintenance nor snow removal activities. Residents seeking enforcement should call the Wellesley Police, who can issue a civil fine of up to $50.
