Name calling goes online at Wellesley College

Quite the dust-up at Wellesley College this week, and a real close-up look at how the Web has transformed the fine art of name calling. We’ve all heard about how ugly online sites such as Facebook can get, and some in Massachusetts are pushing for anti-bullying legislation that would take online bullying into account. Things at the college started when someone made a post about a male Dartmouth exchange student attending Wellesley College on a new anonymous message board called Wellesley FML. From there, the offended male student allegedly issued an unsavory screed about Wellesley women on the school’s internal messaging system. That has led to a flood of unflattering reactions from many women at the school via Twitter and other online venues, even including YouTube, where one student put the whole shebang to music.
