Why scouts are hanging plastic bags on your door

November 5, 2009 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

scouting

This Saturday, November 7th, you may see scouts of all ages – from Brownies, Daisies and Cubs all the way up to high school Girl and Boy Scouts – crisscrossing Wellesley delivering plastic Roche Brothers bags to every single family residence in town. They are all “Scouting for Food” for the Wellesley Food Pantry, joining 3 million other scouts across America in supporting local food pantries. The “Scouting for Food” drive is the single biggest source of donated food to the Wellesley Food Pantry with more than 75% of its donated food coming from this single event! And with 45% more registered users at the Pantry than last year, the need for food this year is particularly great.

So when you see a plastic bag with a Food Pantry “wish list” flyer inside hanging from your door, please be as generous as you can and fill that bag with food (unexpired, no glass, no perishables) and put it outside your house before 9 AM on November 14th. The Wellesley Scout who dropped off the bag will be back that day to take your food to the Pantry. If you don’t receive a bag, the Food Pantry will also gladly accept donations to their box at Roche Brothers on Linden Street. Questions? Please check out our new Scouting for Food website at http://troop185wellesley.org/ScoutingForFood/ or call the Food Pantry at 781-235-1188.

Thanks in advance for your generosity!
