Wellesley College’s Davis Museum and Cultural Center has tapped Lisa Fischman as its new director and she starts Feb. 1. She has been chief curator of the University of Arizona Museum of Art in Tucson (she took that job in 2005 and said at the time she originally intended to become a doctor) and Gallery Director at the Atlanta College of Art. Words of wisdom from Fischman: “College museums possess unusual potential for risk taking, for surprise and transformation, and thereby not only play a vital role in the education of their local constituencies but in the cultural life of the nation.”
Dennis McFadden served as interim director, and previous director David Mickenberg resigned in mid-2008 in the wake of a prized piece of art being lost.
