The Wellesley School Committee this week approved a 5.08% budget increase, taking into consideration cuts proposed by Superintendent Bell Wong (read her take) to the $56 million-ish budget but rejecting possible job cuts in music, library and administrative areas.
One additional expense this fiscal year (final budget approval would come at Town Meeting in April) is testing for concussions for middle school students. Athletic fees for middle schoolers rise from $100 to $125. The number of high school buses will be trimmed and fees will rise. Resources will be added for Grade 7 Mandarin and high school advanced strings courses.
The School Committee still needs to work with the town’s Advisory Committee to trim the budget to do away with a gap between Advisory’s recommendation and what the School Committee approved.
