An online publication called Her Campus has some Wellesley College students fuming over its Mr. Campus Freshman contest, which had students nominate males they know from other colleges, such as Vassar and the University of Arizona, rather than picking from among transgender students from the all-women college.
Wellesley students have flooded Her Campus with emails imploring the website to either allow Wellesley transgender students to participate or nix the contest altogether. Wrote one student: “We may be single-sex, but we are not single-gender. This is an offensive and limited idea of gender, dating, and relationships. I cannot believe that graduates of Harvard (the Her Campus founders) have been perpetuating such blindly degrading policies and ideas.”
Late last year it was a male exchange student who incurred the wrath of women at the school after some online name calling.

In response to the feedback we received from Wellesley students, Her Campus restarted the contest for Wellesley and renamed it “Mr. Wellesley First-Year”, giving students another chance to nominate whoever they want for it.
