A new women’s fitness business called The Miss Fit Club has opened its doors at 873 Worcester St. (Rte. 9) and it has an interesting twist: It’s operated by a veteran of Miss America and Miss USA pageants and includes among its services readying clients themselves for pageants.
It also has a whole lot of pink treadmills and exercise equipment.
Katie Boyd, who runs Miss Fit, has been a personal trainer for 11 years and describes herself as a “pageant preparation” specialist whose clients have gone on to win or place well at various local, national and international competitions. She’s probably also one of Wellesley’s only certified custom airbrush tanners.
Boyd, who previously worked at the Fitness Club for Women on Linden St., says Miss Fit is the gym she’s dreamed about since she was a little girl. It’s got a Hollywood glam look, even featuring a photo of Marilyn Monroe pumping iron. It also boasts a lounge with a coffee and tea bar.
Offerings at Miss Fit for pageant training include 1-to-12 month programs, plus “booty” camps and nutrition services. At-home sessions are also available. For those participating in pageants, “We go over walking, poise, tanning, on stage presentation and swimsuit selection,” Boyd says.
Boyd, who hosted a launch party for the business at the Bond night club in Boston over the weekend, breaks down her clientele this way: 40% “pageant girls”, 50% “regular ladies” and 10% teens (daughters of the other clients).
No men allowed: “I want my ladies to feel like no one is trying to pick them up or judge them, and so that they can be free to do, say and look however they want to,” Boyd says.
