Wellesley “Turtle Guy” recognized

15269Animal rights group In Defense of Animals has recognized Wellesley’s Bill DeVasher for his lifelong protection of turtles. DeVasher, who cared for box turtles as a lad in Kansas, is said to have saved dozens of turtles from being roadkill over the years. According to IDA:  “Once, jumping from his car where the Mass TurnPike meets Route 128 to save a turtle who had made it to the middle of the intersection, Bill tripped and fell right on top of the turtle. Prostrate in oncoming traffic, Bill managed not only to recover, but to scoop up and carry the unharmed turtle to the river he or she was attempting to reach.”

Though apparently Bill wasn’t on hand to save this snapper
