Road runners took to Wellesley’s streets around Babson College in big time heat and humidity Sunday morning to run the 10th annual Officer Stewart Savage Memorial 5K Road Race. More than 170 runners, including a load of local police and FBI personnel, competed, and it was Boston’s Matthew Uzenski who finished first at 18:13, which works out to a 5:52 minutes per mile pace. Hannah Smith, a 16-year-old, finished first among females at 20:50. Evan Rosenberg was tops among Wellesley police officers.

One of the coolest parts of the race took part at the start. Without his expected National Anthem singer, Lt. Jack Pilecki led the runners and onlookers in a stirring rendition of the song instead.
On the humorous side, race workers were overheard joking about keeping an eye on the bottled water in light of the water shortages facing surrounding towns, including those from which some of the visiting runners hailed.
