From the Wellesley Hills Junior Women’s Club:
The club has awarded $68,500 in scholarships to Wellesley students for the upcoming 2010 – 2011 academic year. WHJWC received 70 applications, and awarded 48 scholarships to students in the college classes of 2011-2014. Scholarship amounts ranged from $500-$3,700, with an average award of approximately $1,400.
The WHJWC is also pleased to recognize winners of its three named awards:
- The Patricia C. Doiron Memorial Scholarship recognizes a graduating senior who has shown a commitment to early childhood education through participation in the Child Lab at the Wellesley High School. This year’s winners are Kathryn McCabe, who will attend High Point University in the fall, and Jessica Tarbox, who will attend Syracuse University. Both plan to further their studies in education.
- The Suzanne Stevens Scholarship recognizes a graduating senior (or current college student) who has demonstrated strength when faced with adversity, while maintaining a strong academic record and involvement in community service. This year’s winner is Daniel Schwarz, who will attend Quinnipiac University in the fall.
- The WHJWC and Principal’s Community Service Book Award recognizes a graduating senior who has performed exceptional community service, and this year is awarded to Thanh Pham. Thanh plans to attend the University of Pennsylvania.
The WHJWC is a chapter of Dollars for Scholars, a division of Scholarship America. Dollars for Scholars matches students’ scholarship awards at nearly 500 participating colleges and universities, thereby doubling students’ award money.
