Wellesley welcomes Jammin’ With You music school

August 4, 2010 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Jammin With You

Jammin’ With You, which specializes in at-home music lessons for all ages,  has taken up residence at 12B Mica Lane in Wellesley near Lower Falls — a location that will allow it to boost its ability to host programs and performances.

Drum, piano, guitar and even beatbox lessons are offered, plus classes for babies as well as music therapy. The Mica Lane site is the company’s new Program & Performance Center, and hosted 8 nights of student SuperJams in June.

Josh Shriber, director of the business, says that 2 years ago the outfit was simply called Jammin’ with Josh and involved him teaching piano and guitar to 40 students. Now Jammin’ has added more than 2 dozen teachers, full-time staff and 450 new students, and has its sights set on Worcester and beyond. Plans are in the works to offer birthday parties and master classes as well.

More than 200 families in Wellesley are clients, according to Shriber.

Jammin’ won’t be the first such outfit to offer its services in town, as we’ve written in the past about At Your Door Music. Is there room for multiple businesses here?

“Absolutely,” says Shriber. “Unfortunately music is offered less and less in our schools.  Music is so important to kids and families.  I’m sure there is room for us and many others.  Our program is unique in the sense that we can start a kid at age 6mo (JamBaby) and they can stay with us no matter what direction they want to go until they go away to college!  This takes pressure off mom and dad to continually find the ‘right fit’  if kids decide to start a new instrument or want to start playing Jazz, improv, classical, euphonium, whatever…We can always set you up with the right teacher or the right group program.”

Previously, Nik’s Olympic School resided at the Mica Lane building, but moved over the winter to 40 Abbott Rd., upstairs from the Maugus Club (where Nik and team are adding rhythmic gymnastics and thinking about dance programs).
