Wellesley College has announced the purchase of a 10-acre property it describes as a “pie-shaped parcel of land [that] lies north of the point where Pond Road nearly touches the lake and dominates the landscape across the lake from the college.”
It is the last privately-held property bordering Lake Waban aside from homes owned by members of the extended Hunnewell family. It adds to a Wellesley College campus that already amounts to about 500 acres, according to the school.
“It represents an invaluable addition to Wellesley’s treasured landscape,” said Andrew Evans, Wellesley College’s vice president for finance and treasurer.
How invaluable? We’re not sure. That wasn’t disclosed. But the good news is that the college will keep the path around the lake open.
$3.8 million.
