The Wellesley Health Department, using money from a Fund for Wellesley grant announced last October, has joined forced with the town’s Youth Commission to launch a suicide prevention-focused website called Wellesley Acts.
Suicide prevention has been a big focus of town government, the schools and local religious groups in light of well-documented teen suicides but also lesser discussed suicidal behavior among older residents. The website, modeled after one in Needham, contains a slew of resources designed to help people teak steps to help themselves and others experiencing emotional crises.
Grant funds have also been used to offer QPR (Question, Persuade, Refer) training designed to help anyone save a life from suicide. For starters, 20 community leaders will be QPR certified and them spread the word to others.
The town also offers Parent and Mental Health resource guides here.
