UPDATED SAT 9/11: While we’ve noted recently that plenty of Wellesley storefronts have been empty for while, it’s not surprising to hear that the former College Square Pizza space at 552 Washington St., might not remain vacant for long.
Wellesley’s Joe Perdoni, Jr., whose family has been in the food business for years, plans to open a pizza-plus shop called Old School in the space within the next couple of months. He was turned onto the space by a friend at the nearby Tutto Italiano shop at 570 Washington St. and expects to take some pointers from that outfit in coming up with its offerings.
Perdoni says the initial focus will be refurbishing the space and making it spotless. He says to expect Italian family-style food that will be affordable even for the kids who might like to visit, as they often did College Square Pizza.
If Tian Fu hadn’t dragged their feet and complained so much about leaving their sub-lease, they might have been able to get this prime spot. Hopefully this new restaurant will continue the friendly and inexpensive traditions set by the former owners of College Sq Pizza. We miss them!
