Whole Foods this week issued a statement defending itself regarding the eviction being faced by Tian Fu restaurant (see here on the Globe site).
Whole Foods has been pretty quiet up until now, only noting that it’s just a tenant of property manager Gravestar, which also gave Star Market the heave-ho. But with Tian Fu and supporters waging a very public “Save Tian Fu” campaign Whole Foods felt compelled to speak out, saying it had offered to help Whole Foods extend its stay and offering funds for an eventual move but was “met with silence.”
It sounds like Tian Fu put all their eggs in the “if we stay and complain long enough, then they’ll let us stay” basket. Maybe they haven’t been looking for a new location like they’ve claimed.
Yes, they have been looking. And they were treated really shabbily by the town and the big businesses that own that property. Would it have killed WF or Gravestar to let them keep that corner? Come on. And that “Whole Fu” picture is tasteless, btw…this is a family’s livelihood we are talking about. Walk a mile in their shoes, how would you react?
