UPDATE: The deadline for team entries has been stretched until Oct. 22
The Wellesley Spelling BEE, which takes place Nov. 4 at 7pm at Sprague Elementary School, is organized by the Wellesley Education Foundation (WEF) as a major fundraiser for enrichment programs in the Wellesley Public Schools. Last year’s Bee raised over $30,000, which was used to fund grants to teachers, support technology, promote science education, and sponsor other worthwhile educational projects and programs.
Attending the event is a free, fun-filled community activity.
WEF is actively seeking teams of adult spellers as well as sponsors for High School spelling teams. Hurry though, as entries are due by Oct. 15.
Various community groups, businesses, alumni groups, neighborhoods, sports teams, student councils and PTOs assemble teams. We even hear that our recent report poking fun at Wellesley Antique Lighting for a spelling error on a window sign inspired the owner to make a donation to the BEE, and that’s really swell.
