Biogen Idec has issued a press release today with a headline touting a “framework for growth,” but the maker of MS drugs such as Avonex and Tysabri is also whacking 13% of its staff (about 650 jobs) and closing its offices in Wellesley, Waltham and San Diego.
No specifics were given about exactly how many jobs are in Wellesley or whether employees at the Wellesley Office Park location on William Street will be transferred to more up-to-date facilities in Cambridge, Weston and North Carolina.
The company, which saw its earnings dive in Q3, says its moves will save $300 million a year.
