Different Drummer, the Wellesley gift store at 41 Central St., is closing on Dec. 31. “2011 will be a new chapter for us,” a note to customers on the store’s window reads.
The store, which the current owner operated in town for 15 years but that was around as far back as 1975 from what we can gather, offered a variety of unique gift items from jewelry to decorations to stationery, and earned a good reputation for customer service.
Owner Amy Law wrote to us saying that “We will always treasure many special memories like: Working with children and parents as they choose a special gift; helping a person find a thoughtful gift for a friend that is sick or dying; Finding a unique gift to celebrate a birthday or special event; being part of a family tradition of selecting a Christmas ornament each year; and choosing a special card to cheer a friend or family that is going through a difficult time.” Law says she looks forward to “a little sabbatical beginning in 2011” that will allow her to take more yoga and cooking classes, among other things.
The store’s motto: “Every day is a gift.”

A Different Drummer may have operated under the current management for 15 years, but I’m nearly certain I recall it 25 years and longer ago in that location.
please support Amy until the last closing day & minutes ! Cheers
