From Wellesley to the big screen: “The Company Men”
A reminder that the new Ben Affleck movie, “The Company Men”, was shot partly in Wellesley in 2009. Film crews invaded Wellesley’s Cliff Estates area, transforming fake green lawns into fake snowy lawns.

The movie was released last week to pretty good reviews, though some say it hits perhaps too close to home to those who have lost their jobs during the current economic downturn.
It’s got to be better than the last major Hollywood extravaganza to film in Wellesley, the romantic comedy “Ghosts of Girlfriends Past” (OK, I confess I didn’t actually see this.)
The movie probably best known for being filmed in Wellesley was Julia Roberts’ “Mona Lisa Smile”, which is about Wellesley College back in the day.
Wellesley resident Jeanne Cerulle wrote to say that:
“The house and neighborhood depicted Wellesley as true as one could hope for.
I hadn’t known that the movie was partly shot at a house in Wellesley, so I was amazed at how familiar the appointments within the house felt. I remember that camera panning the kitchen with its “standard” center island, granite countertops, stainless appliances and panini press. It was only after several scenes and maybe a street sign that I realized that I know that house and that neighborhood!
The movie hit very close to home and made me want to return home quickly and cancel needless services. If we haven’t been personally touched by job loss, then we know someone who has or can see just how easy it is to be caught unprepared.
In short, it was a good movie and great reason to keep grounded.”
