MassBay Community College has been around 50 years as of 2011, though its history in Wellesley didn’t begin in earnest until 1973, when it replaced the former Elizabeth Seton High School in Wellesley Hills.
MassBay plans a bunch of activities to celebrate its anniversary, highlighted by a gala to be held March 4 that will serve as a major fundraiser for student scholarships. A 50th birthday party is also planned for September, and other events are promised as well.
The college started up in Boston and Watertown, but now has locations in Framingham and Ashland in addition to Wellesley. More than 18,000 students have graduated from MassBay since its start and 5,000 are currently enrolled. The college boasts of students regularly getting honored as Barry M. Goldwater Scholars for excellence in math and science.
MassBay is also the place to hear the Wellesley Symphony Orchestra perform.
