MetroWest Daily News reports that the pope has turned down appeals by St. James the Great in Wellesley and 8 other parishes looking to save their churches from a shutdown resulting from the Archdiocese of Boston’s fiscal crisis.
St. James began a vigil in 2004 to keep the church alive and are still at it.
As a consolation prize, the pope is said to be praying for the closed parishes.
