Wellesley plotting its financial future

January 28, 2011 by Bob Brown Leave a Comment

Committee 21, Wellesley’s public education advocacy group, has passed along this note from the Wellesley Board of Selectmen and town manager Hans Larsen:

On Monday, January 31, at 7:30 pm the Board of Selectmen will be reviewing an update of the Town Wide Financial Plan at its meeting in the Juliani Room at Town Hall.  The Plan will show the current budget projections for FY12 and projections for the operating budgets for FY13 and FY14 for all town departments.  It will also show anticipated capital projects for the next five years, including the Fuller Brook Park project, the DPW  office building project, and others, as well as the proposed sources of funding for these projects.   Citizen Speak will follow immediately after the presentation.

Please understand that this is not a forum for questions and answers, however, you may send any questions to the Selectmen at sel@wellesleyma.gov.  We invite residents to attend this meeting to obtain more details on the Town Wide Financial Plan. This meeting will be broadcast live on WCAC (Channel 9 Comcast; Channel 39 Verizon) and will be replayed on WCAC Tuesday, February 1 at 4:00 pm, Wednesday, February 2 at 12:00 am, Saturday, February 5 at 6:00 am and Sunday, February 6 at 12:30 am.

Additionally, the Selectmen will be holding a meeting for all Town Meeting Members on Tuesday, February 8 at 7:00 pm in the Juliani Room at Town Hall.  The first hour of the meeting will include basics on Town finance and the second hour will include the Town Wide Financial Plan.  This will be broadcast live on WCAC.  We will announce the rebroadcast times on Monday, January 31 and also post them on the town website.

Committee 21 says it is encouraged by the state budget proposed this week by Gov. Deval Patrick, which includes increases in Chapter 70 education aid. Such aid should help the town from making as severe cuts as it first thought might be needed to the Wellesley Public Schools budget.
