The Wellesley Public School system is seeking a new principal for Bates Elementary School.
Michael Spencer, the current principal, replaced Amber Bock in 2008. She headed to Weston’s school system. As for Spencer, he’s looking to find a job closer to his home and has given the Wellesley school system an early heads up to enable it to get its search going early.
Wellesley School Superintendent Bella Wong says Spencer is a “talented school leader” and that she’s sorry to see him leave, though respects his decision.
The Wellesley Public School system is willing to pay in the ballpark of $111K to $124K for this job, which entails a 214-day work-year.
News of the job opening comes at a time when Wellesley will likely need to cut staff in order to meet budget goals. Wong met with her staff this week to update them on the latest bleak numbers resulting from a tough economy, reduced state aid and rising expenses.
Wong will present her recommendation for potential reductions at a School Committee meeting on Tuesday, while hoping “that any possible reductions will be significantly less than what is being currently contemplated.”
