Wellesley’s dirty jobs

With the snow mostly melted in Wellesley, construction projects around town are going full bore:

* The effort to move Whole Foods into the old Star Market space at 448 Washington Street is powering along, with CM&B construction crews digging deep of late in front of the old grocery store to renovate the basement and first floor.

* Waterstone at Wellesley, the senior living facility rising from the ashes of the old Grossman’s on lower Washington Street, is still scheduled to be completed by spring of 2012. According to Waterstone: “All the critical foundational elements – footings, foundation walls, shafts and ducts, underground plumbing, steel frame, waterproofing, drainage – are moving forward rapidly.” A sales office will be opening soon across the street at 40 Washington St. Cranshaw Construction’s Chris Iannelli says passersby in coming weeks “will start to see the assisted living wing of the building go vertical. It’s a four-story building. Over the next two months we will have that wing built up to the roof and we’ll start installing the exterior siding and trim. In a month, we will start the framing component for the independent living wing.”

* Linden Square continues to green itself up, with construction teams focusing on the section next to the Ceri store on the Roche Bros. side of the street.

* Former Wellesley Inn space. All seems  quiet here. The State’s Permit Extension Act allows for the Wellesley Inn land developers to retain all permits until 2013.
