Wellesley’s typically around-the-clock bustling streets are expected to empty this Friday morning starting at 5AM as all catch the live broadcast of Will & Kate’s Royal Wedding or at least a DVR or streamed YouTube version later that morning.
Dorset Cafe naturally is fired up for the nuptials, with plans to launch its Royal Green tea — “a fragrant blend of green tea with golden peach, Mt. Olympus flower, Linden flower, and organic Rooibos” and offering scone samples while supplies last. The cafe reports that “guests are ordering our scones, clotted cream, and lemon curd for teatime celebrations of Friday’s nuptials :-)” and co-owner Sally Khudairi says she will be in London that day, though we didn’t notice her name on the royal invite list.
Even Mrs. Swellesley herself has received a gilded invitation to an ever-so-civilized ladies brunch on Friday in Wellesley to view a pre-recorded edition of the wedding.
Babson College is inviting its community to feast on English Breakfast and Wedding Cake at a Royal Wedding Watch Party at Trim Hall: “Yes, 6am is early – but events like this only happen every 20 years or so – come in your wedding attire, pajamas, or study attire to make a special memory by watching the Royal Wedding with members of the Babson community.”
Meanwhile, it’s not too late to plan your own such gathering, and Manners for Modern Mothers‘ Elizabeth Baxter Butcher lays it all out for you, including the recommendation that you don a “ridculous over-sized hat (think Four Weddings and a Funeral).”
We do hope that Bradley Avenue home in Wellesley listed as being owned by Queen Elizabeth II will be the site of one such party.
As for those of us a little less interested in the festivities, let’s be thankful the wedding won’t interfere with any Bruins/Celtics playoff games.
(Feel free to let us know if there’s other royal stuff going on, send pictures, etc. here)
