UPDATE APRIL 19: A sign in the window at the site confirms City Sports is headed here.
We’re hearing the new tenant at what was formerly the St. Moritz/Ski Market location at 475 Washington St., will be a “product retailer” of some sort, but more specifically, the buzz is that it could be a City Sports store.
As for City Sports, they say: “We are always looking for new places to be! Stay tuned… for news regarding store openings.”
Locally, City Sports has stores in Boston, Cambridge, Dedham and Chestnut Hill, plus has shops in New York, Philly and elsewhere.
The arrival of such a store in Wellesley could be part of a sports equipment influx, as PrimeTime Lacrosse is also moving onto Crest Road soon, as we noted recently. It could mean competition for Thunder in Wellesley Square as well as the nearby Natick Outdoor Store.
The St. Moritz/Ski Market store closed down early in 2010 after Ski Market filed for bankruptcy.
