A monthly tabloid called “Wellesley localtownpages” has joined the media frenzy covering your town. Can Rupert Murdoch and Ted Turner be far behind?
The free paper is being shipped to 12,000 homes and businesses in Wellesley, and marks the expansion of a publishing business that has papers in Medway/Millis, Franklin and Norwood. The lightly copy-edited tabloid features the usual mix of ads, calendar items, photos, charitable event announcements and articles kissing up to local businesses. Things we learned from reading the 20-page inaugural issue: Old School Pizzeria’s owners have ambitions to branch out to other locations and also that Wellesley Board of Selectmen member Gig Babson “was unresponsive in an attempt to contact her” for an article (We hope she’s OK!)
The paper joins the Wellesley Townsman, Boston Globe (Your Town Wellesley), AOL Patch, WellesleyWeston Magazine and WCAC-TV local access cable in tracking your every move.
What’s more, Wellesley businessman Aaron Kushner is reportedly (according to the Globe) prepping a $200M-plus offer to buy the Globe, which would certainly then funnel many of its resources into even more in-depth coverage of Wellesley.
