The Friends of Brookside join in the Wonderful Wellesley Weekend fun with a series of events on Saturday May 21 celebrating the road’s designation as a scenic road:
8:30am Turtle Talk Learn about these creatures with Wellesley animal officer Sue Webb
9:00am Ribbon Cutting followed by Town Forest Hikes Join town leaders on the corner of Oakland and Brookside as we welcome Brookside Road as a Scenic Road.
Then hit the road and trails
Town Forest Walk Hike the woodland trails in the Town Forest around Longfellow Pond, guided by the Wellesley Trails Committee. Enjoy the picturesque views, walk the Esker Trail and experience the steep 80-foot high eskers deposited by glaciers.
Brookside Road & Rosemary Loop Walk Scenic Brookside Road, (which will be closed to traffic from 9-10 AM), turn left onto the Aqueduct to the Town Forest trail bordering Rosemary Brook, and end at Longfellow Pond. Leaders: Community Members
10:00am Cake and Refreshments Socialize and enjoy refreshments at Longfellow Pond.
The Friends of Brookside are also spearheading a turtle photo contest, so if you spot one in the wild snap a picture and send along to friends.of.brookside@gmailand be eligible to win a $25 book store gift certificate (Include the date, approximate time of day and location, if possible.).
