Dip into Wellesley’s pools this weekend

The Wellesley Natural Resources Commission this Saturday is organizing a Vernal Pool Adventure for kids and adults. Meet at the Police Station, where a presentation will kick off at 10am, then head out to explore a local vernal pool. Wear boots and clothes you don’t mind mucking up while searching for frogs, salamanders and other pond life. Bring a net if you have one. The program is slated to last until 12:30pm.

Speaking of pools, we haven’t heard much lately about proposals to build one at Sprague Field, though the latest efforts seemed focused on the St. James the Great land if that winds up being sold to the town. Other pools in town are at: Wellesley Country Club , Babson’s Webster Center, Wellesley College and Boston Sports Club. (For non-pools, there’s always Morses Pond, too.)

The sleeper on the Wellesley pool front could be Crystal Lagoons, a celebrated start-up that is building environmentally friendly Guinness World Record-sized “beach paradise” pools and that has offered to donate its patented technology to Wellesley’s own Babson College (the company’s CEO recently spoke there). The Chilean company is even building pools to help cool power plants.
