Between the roughly $29-a-year tax hike Wellesley residents will be hit with as a result of the DPW building addition funding being approved by voters this week and the threat of many parking meters in town doubling from 25 cents an hour to 50 cents or more down the road, it’s time for Wellesley residents to start penny pinching.
You can get started as soon as this weekend, taking advantage of the Wellesley Police Department open house on Saturday from 11-3, where free hotdogs, drinks and snacks are served. Linden Square will be serving up free S’mores at its new fire pit at 5pm Saturday as well. You’ll hardly need to step foot in your kitchen all day!
Another tip: Check out Wellesley Freecycle, an online group where people swap their unwanted stuff with each other for free. One member was looking to ditch a 10-year-old swing set when we last looked. Then there’s always the Wellesley RDF for your freebie home furnishings.
And don’t overlook thrift store shopping in Wellesley and slightly beyond.
