We don’t have a lot for you on this, but a reader was asking if anything was going on with efforts to re-start the Tian Fu restaurant at another location in Wellesley. The longtime Chinese restaurant closed last October after being unable to renew its lease.
The former restaurant location in the space now being taken over by Whole Foods on Washington Street has been gutted, and the old Tian Fu sign has been torn down, as seen here, amidst the remains of the garden. Whole Foods hopes to open at the new location in August and have a community room for food/health lectures in the old Tian Fu space, according to a Townsman report.
There’s been no recent activity on either the Tian Fu website or Facebook page, where the Chen family had said they would provide any update on their restaurant plans.
A family friend says the Chens have not been able to find an affordable alternative space in town to date.
