Gerardo Martinez, currently principal of the Devotion School in Brookline’s Coolidge Corner area, has been named the next Schofield Elementary School principal starting in July.
He will replace David Wilkins, who is headed to the Rashi School in Dedham.
Before leading Devotion Elementary School, Martinez was the principal at Mary E. Curley Middle School in Jamaica Plain.
According to Wellesley School Superintendent Bella Wong, who made the announcement of Martinez’s hiring, the new Schofield principal has an educational background in English, educational administration and journalism.
Martinez made headlines late last year/early this year regarding his letter home to parents about a decision to start reciting the Pledge of Allegiance weekly at the school.
